2015 breaks records in the number of pilgrims

According to data from the Pilgrim’s Office, the number of pilgrims who visited Compostela in 2015 reached 262,515, almost 25,000 more than in 2014 (an increase of 10.31% over the previous year).

An interesting aspect to take into account is the large influx of pilgrims from other parts of the world (53.38% of the total). The Camino de Santiago has brought together people from 178 nationalities (39 more than in 2014) with Italy and Germany being the main countries of origin of foreign pilgrims, followed by Portugal, France, UK, USA, Canada, Korea or Brazil.

The preferred route to undertake the adventure, continues to be the French Way (172,244 pilgrims) followed by the Portuguese Way (43,149), the Northern Way (15,873), the Primitive Way (11,428) and, finally, the English Way (9,247).

The truth is that each of these routes is a different itinerary, where we can find unique samples of art, a typical gastronomy of the region and unique festivals and traditions.

In Pambretours we are happy to see that the Camino de Santiago is still alive and arouses interest among people from different countries and cultures. We are proud to have done our bit to bring the experience to people from all over the world with whom we have shared unforgettable moments.

We would like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you who have chosen us in 2015 to walk the Camino de Santiago.

jubileomisericordia

We hope that this 2016 will be as special as the year that has just ended, because as many of you know, Pope Francis has proclaimed an extraordinary Jubilee from December 8, 2015 (the day of the Immaculate Conception) until November 20, 2016 (Solemnity of Christ the King).

This Jubilee will begin with the opening of the Holy Door in St. Peter’s Basilica (Rome) and the following Sunday the Holy Doors of all the churches of the world will be opened.

Since the Holy Door of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is only opened during Holy Years, this opening is of special interest to all pilgrims who start their tour for reasons of religious devotion since the Holy Door symbolizes a path to salvation for the faithful.

It is the perfect occasion to obtain the Jubilee without waiting for 2021 (the next Holy Year).

This 2016, new Holy Year of Mercy, we encourage you to live one of the best experiences of your life, contact us and live the emotion of the Camino with Pambretours!
