Is it possible to do the Camino de Santiago in 7 days?

The Camino de Santiago is much more than an adventure or a personal challenge. Once we undertake it, and even more if we manage to complete it, we realize why other pilgrims describe it as a unique experience in their lives.

¿Es posible hacer el Camino de Santiago en 7 días?

Unfortunately, we do not always have the free days we would like to walk the Camino de Santiago. But if this December you have a week, we have the perfect plan to make your dream come true.

Is it possible to do the Camino de Santiago in 7 days?

Yes, it is feasible to complete the 100 km. necessary to obtain “la Compostela” and reach our goal. But first we need to have four ideas in mind:

  • It requires training: even if you are only going to invest 7 days, you will need to prepare yourself physically by taking short daily walks. You should start with short walks on flat terrain and progressively increase the number of kilometers and varying the terrain. In the case of advanced age or any previous pathology, a medical examination is recommended to evaluate the suitability of the plan. In some cases it is necessary to prepare the muscles for the effort by making a previous visit to the physiotherapist. This will help to start the Camino de Santiago in optimal conditions.
  • Mental strength: it is also essential to achieve our goal. If you are not an experienced hiker and you have few days, we recommend you to opt for a guided tour to fully enjoy the Camino de Santiago. They will plan the stages for you, adapting to your physical abilities. The stops will serve to contemplate the beautiful landscapes of Galicia, to know its monuments and its culture. In addition, you will rest much better and this will be noticed both physically and mentally.
  • Count the days of travel from the starting point and the return home: to think that it will only take you 7 days to complete the Camino is only feasible if you live in the place of origin. Otherwise, to this time you have to add the time it takes you to get from your city to the starting point and then back home from Santiago de Compostela. Therefore, you should count on about ten days in total, even if the hike only lasts seven days. Actually, it would also be a great idea to have one or two extra days to get to know Compostela as it is a magical city with many places of great cultural value to discover.
  • The route that suits you best: there are several possibilities to plan the Camino de Santiago in 7 days. You can do, for example, the Primitive Way from the Roman walls of Lugo (in 7 days and 6 nights), the English Way from the estuary of Ferrol (122 km.) or the Portuguese Way starting in Tui. However, most pilgrims who are going to do the Camino de Santiago in a week opt for the route from Sarria to Santiago as it can be easily covered on foot in this period of time.

Would you like to fulfill your dream of a pilgrimage to Santiago before the end of the year? If the answer is yes, Pambre Tours encourages you to discover our “Camino Corto” tour modality at any time of the year.

There are 110 km. in total, in which we will cover the distance from Sarria to Compostela and we will live the experience of becoming real pilgrims.

The total route consists of 7 walking stages + an additional day to get to know the beautiful city of Santiago in a guided tour of the Cathedral and the monumental areas of the old town.

Stage by stage, we will discover the beautiful landscapes of the Galician geography, visiting its villages and traveling the same paths that the first pilgrims took since the beginning of the Jacobean route.

In addition, during the first day we will make several interesting stops to visit the beautiful city of Astorga and its monumental Episcopal Palace; or the Monastery of Samos, located in the province of Lugo, whose foundation dates back to the 6th century.

And, as in all our tours, doing the Short Way from Sarria, you can also get the official certification of the Compostela, which certifies having completed the last hundred kilometers of walking on foot.
