Also known as the Monastic Way in its Galician section, it is the Jacobean itinerary that runs along the Atlantic coast; it starts in Porto, the second most important city in Portugal and located at the mouth of the Douro, and passes through Vila do Conde, Viana do Castelo, Caminha, A Guarda (first town in Galicia) and Vigo, to connect with the classic -or central- Portuguese Way in Redondela. Its total distance from Porto to Santiago is 271 km.

This route, which grows year after year in an unstoppable way, stands out for its beautiful landscapes, for the attraction of the proximity of the sea and for being physically undemanding, as the slopes to overcome are minimal. The climate is mild during most of the year, which makes it possible to undertake this route in any season: autumn and winter are perfect for those who wish to enjoy the scenery without overcrowding or bustle, while in summer we can alternate mornings pedaling with some afternoons on the beach.

Day by day itinerary

You will arrive in Oporto on your own. At the selected hotel you will find the documentation for your trip and the rented bicycle.

Day: 1

OPORTO (Portugal) - Our guide will meet you in the afternoon at the hotel. Afterwards we will have a walk through the center of the city, where dinner will be served.

Day: 2

The initial day poses a dilemma: follow the banks of the Douro River and the beaches of the Atlantic coast, in a varied and entertaining route, or opt for the inland route through Padrão da Légua and the airport, without attractions and where we will not see the sea at any time. Since this is the first stage of the Portuguese Coastal Route, most pilgrims have it very clear: river and beaches.

Day: 3

Today's day runs in its first part entirely inland, without stepping on a beach. However, it has some of the most beautiful landscapes of this route, such as the path that goes down to the Neiva riverbed. From Viana we can follow the official path that goes inland, or opt for the coast, without arrows but with beaches. Once in Vila Praia de ncora a walk without slopes awaits us until Caminha, where the stage will end.

Day: 4

Today we finish our journey through Portugal and by ferry we enter Spain. The first day of this route in Galicia offers us very beautiful stretches by the sea, through a rugged landscape, exposed to wind and storms. In addition to the various viewpoints overlooking the ocean, A Guarda, a beautiful fishing village, and Oia, with the imposing building of its monastery overlooking the beach, will be obligatory stops. Baiona etc. And so on to the city of Vigo.

Day: 5

The departure from Vigo is a pleasant surprise, as the itinerary runs along the Senda da Traída das Augas, with forests and panoramic views over the estuary. Upon entering Redondela, our Coastal Way meets the Central Portuguese Way, the great Jacobean route that comes from Lisbon, Porto and Tui, which we will follow for the next few days to Compostela. We will pass through the beautiful city of Pontevedra and its Rio Lerez. We will finish in Caldas de Reis, a town famous for its thermal spas.

Day: 6

This last stage of the Portuguese Way runs mostly on asphalt and urbanized areas, following, of course, the national road N-550, which today we cross multiple times. We will pass through Pontecesures and Padrón, cities of great cultural interest related to the Camino de Santiago. In terms of slopes, it is worth mentioning the moderate and progressive ascent to Agro dos Monteiros, in O Milladoiro.

In the cultural field, apart from Santiago with its extraordinary cathedral, it is worth mentioning the beautiful collegiate church of Iria Flavia, which was the first cathedral in Galicia. We will enter Santiago reaching the Obradoiro square. Visit the Cathedral to fulfill the ritual of embracing the Apostle. We get our Compostela at the Pilgrim's Office. Return of bicycles.

Day: 7

SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA. - Breakfast and end of our services.

In our trips, the ride is accompanied by a support vehicle that will give you total peace of mind knowing that throughout the tour we will be with you.

You can request the rental of an electric bicycle with an additional cost of 400€.
