It is the first pilgrimage route to Santiago, the oldest. It links Oviedo with Santiago de Compostela and runs largely along Roman road layouts.

The first pilgrim King was precisely the Asturian-Galician monarch Alfonso II “El Casto”, who, in the first third of the 9th Century, wanted to travel to Santiago to confirm that the remains that had just appeared in Compostela were really those of the Apostile. At Pambretours we decided top ay tribute to this ancient route and to the city of Lugo a city with two thousand years and three World Heritage Sites declared by the Unesco; the Camino itself, the Cathedral and the Roman Wall that surrounds the old part of the town.

Itinerary Day by Day

Day: 1

Arrive to Lugo on your own. You will find all the information needed in your accomodation

Day: 2

Lugo – Ferreira (25 km)

Today our true path begins, we start the walk at the Cathedral of Lugo. This point will allow us to be in front of three places declared World Heritage Sites by the Unesco. The Cathedral, the Primitive way and the Roman Wall. Few places in the world can boast this privilege.

We begin crossing the Santiago gate and continue down the street until we cross the Miño river through its Roman bridge. Outside Lugo we will pass through towns like San Vicente do Burgo where there was a pilgrim hospital. This section of the stage offers us interesting panoramic views of the city that is left behind. Except the initial 2 Km, the rest of the stage is done in a gentle climb, almost all on local rural roads.

Day: 3

Ferreira – Melide (23km)

This stage is more irregular than the previous one, but much more attractive due to the amount of forests and meadows. We will pass through towns such as; O Burgo de Negral, Casa Camiño, Hospital das Seixas and Melide, a meeting place and unión with pilgrims who come along the French Way. Melide is considered one of the towns where the “Pulpo a Feira” (Galician-style octopus)is best prepared. Also has the oldest “Cruceiro” in Galicia.

Day: 4

Melide – Arzúa (15km)

Throughout this stage we will walk through beautiful towns and cross the Iso river by an idyllic medieval bridge, both closely linked to the history of the Camino de Santiago, as it also has and old pilgrim hospital.

Day: 5

Arzua – Pedrouzo (19 km)

We will visit pass through the towns of Calzada, Boavista, Santa Irene and A Rua. The most unique enclave is Santa Irene with its hermitage dedicated to the Portuguese martyr saint baroque fountain of healing waters.

Day: 6

Pedrouzo – Santiago de Compostela (19 km)

Finally Santiago, the desired end is there, just half a day away. As soon as you leave Pedrouzo behind, a sixth sense lets us know that this is over. There is any force on earth that prevents us from achieving our goal.

In Santiago the happy walker discovers a city of stones obscured by the passage of time and persistent rain. Old roads with the smell of Ribeiro and octopus are scattered throughout the Old Town. The cathedral represents the culmination of the Way and the apostle rests in it, causing hundreds of thousands of people to undertake year after year a journey full of fatigue and experiences that will become memories for a lifetime.
